All day every day we are pummeled with messages encouraging us to protect nature, take responsibility for Planet Earth and preserve the wild life that surrounds us. The residents of Haifa and the northern region have a unique opportunity to take an active part in this trend at the Haifa Municipal Zoological Gardens (The Zoo for short).
The Zoo is part of a network of global zoos that enable a peek into and to share the lives of many species of wildlife, from various ecological systems and provides both young and old visitors, through their visits and their purchasing season tickets, with the opportunity to participate in saving the biological diversity of Planet Earth, to touch and pet many animals and to get to know nature up close and personal. Apes, reptiles, birds, bugs and predators, including the only white tiger of its kind in Israel, are resident at the Zoo.
The Zoo overlooks the hypnotizing panorama of the Carmel Mountain and the Lotem River, the surroundings are manicured and green, the paths are laid out meticulously and the entire environment radiates an atmosphere of tranquility, enjoyment, learning and enrichment. This is the place at which to spend quality family time, far from the various flat screens and touch screen ringers / vibrators that are part of our daily lives. The Zoo also houses the “Biology Institute” – a learning center where school children are tutored by qualified teachers and instructors and where they can enrich their knowledge in nature conservation, sustainability, biology and much more.
Over and above the regular activities at the Zoo, you and your children will be able to spend the summer months at daily camps, “white nights” activities and special night safaris, where you can view the predators feeding as well as other nocturnal wild life. Other exciting experiences, suitable also for romantic couples (dates and even weddings) are offered by the Zoo. Production companies and businesses can rent the Zoo for special events – about which everyone will be talking!
