מדוע מעולם לא הופק באוסטריה סרט על עיר הולדתו של היטלר? הבמאי גונטר שווייגר שאל את עצמו את השאלה הזאת כשהחל לעבוד על הסרט הזה ב-2018, זמן קצר לפני שממשלת אוסטריה הפקיעה את הבית שבו נולד הדיקטטור הנאצי. במשך חמש שנים ליווה הבמאי את ההתפתחויות המרתקות בנוגע לשימוש שייעשה במבנה – ומנקודת מבט אישית מאוד. החל מערעור הקלישאה בנוגע ל"עיר של היטלר", וכלה בגילויים מפתיעים ושערורייתיים שהובילו אותו בסופו של דבר אל העבר המשפחתי של עצמו.

Why has no film ever been made in Austria about Hitler's place of birth? Director Günter Schwaiger asked himself this very question when he began working on this film project in 2018, shortly before the house was expropriated by the Republic of Austria. For five years, the director accompanied the exciting developments surrounding the subsequent use of Hitler's birthplace with a very personal view. From questioning the cliché of the "Nazi city" to surprising and outrageous discoveries, his path ultimately leads to his own family history.

 בסרט אלמה ואוסקר, הבמאי דיטר ברנר עוקב אחר שתי דמויות מרגשות, מורכבות, ויוצאות דופן, שני אייקונים של עולם האמנות הווינאי של תחילת המאה ה-20: המלחינה אלמה מאהלר והצייר אוסקר קוקושקה. מה שמתחיל כרומן אהבה סוער בין השניים, הופך יותר ויותר לדרמה קודרת של כוח הרסני.

 כריסטיאן קרונס ופלוריאן וייגנסאמר הם יוצרי סדרה של סרטים דוקומנטריים מהשורה הראשונה, המחויבת למאבק בשכחה ובהדחקת העבר. סרטם האחרון, חיי ילד, מספק במה לניצול השואה דניאל חנוך. הסרט מאיר את התפניות הגורליות של סיפור חיים והישרדות ייחודי, על ילדות והתבגרות בתקופה שבה לא היה מקום לכך.

Chris Raiber’s debut is an impressively sure-footed, bittersweet, and playful celebration of love and the belief that it even can speed up seasons.

Woodland by Elisabeth Scharang follows the story of a city dweller, in existential crisis seeking solace in the countryside. In calm, atmospherically dense scenes between treetops, lonely lakes and foggy fields the movie delves into the themes of escape, self-discovery, scars both old and new, repression and confidence and the enduring bonds of friendship and solidarity.

In Alma and Oskar, director Dieter Berner unravels the captivating love affair between two Viennese art icons, composer Alma Mahler and painter Oskar Kokoschka. What begins as an ardent love affair between the two increasingly spirals into an abysmal drama of destructive power presenting these two complex figures against the backdrop of the early 20th-century Viennese art world.

With a series of top-class documentaries, filmmakers Christian Krönes and Florian Weigensamer are committed to fight against forgetting and not remembering. Their latest film A Boy’s Life gives voice to Holocaust survivor Daniel Chanoch, illuminating the fateful twists and turns of a unique life and survival story, growing up in a time when childhood had no space. 

In “Who Is Afraid of Hitler’s Town? A House and the Past within Us” director Günter Schwaiger tackles the complexities of repressed history. The film paints a nuanced portrait of a city still grappling with from the aftertaste of a monstrous dictator.
