A unique and very well groomed Cultural Center is situated on the slopes of Mt. Carmel, overlooking the spectacular view to the Mediterranean Sea, on the outskirts of the city of Haifa – the Gaston Defra Center, containing the inviting and prestigious Krieger Center Theatre hall.
The Gaston Defra Center, constructed by the Haifa Municipality in conjunction with the Government of France, is the northern cultural representative of the French Embassy in Israel and promotes the good, long standing ties between the City of Haifa and the various institutions and provinces of the Country of France. The French Institute is housed at the Center, which provides: Courses in the French language, a rich and sophisticated library and Mediatheque – the Technological Center for Language Studies. The Krieger Center, built with the assistance of the Haifa Foundation and of Curly Krieger (USA), is one of the most beautiful theatres in Israel (awarded five Beauty Stars in 2012). You will be able to attend some of the best Israeli and international performances at the theatre, in the fields of: Children’s plays, dance, theatre, music, cinema, etc. The performances at the Krieger Center are attended by patrons from all over Haifa and the northern region, young and old, and it is the home base for the Haifa Symphony Orchestra. Local and international art exhibitions are held at various locations all over the Center and, as all ETHOS (the Haifa Municipality Art, Culture and Sports Association Company) organizations do, it promotes original local culture. The Northern Press Association Building is located at the Krieger Center and many and varied cultural and art activity recreational activities are held at the Center (dance groups, choirs, etc.). Dazzling open air receptions and events can be held on the lawns surrounding the Center. Adequate, adjacent, complimentary parking is available for the convenience of the visitors.
